Lekotek of Georgia serves children with a wide range of disabilities. They began in December 1983 providing services. They primarily serve children from birth to 8 years of age, with computer services also available to adolescents and young adults. Minimal fees are charged for some activities, but full and partial scholarships are always available. The heart of Lekotek is its play sessions. In brightly decorated play rooms children are busy playing with toys and computers. With the touch of a switch, adapted toys produce movement and noises, giving youngsters with disabilities the opportunity to learn through play. Play sessions are for newborns through 8 year olds who have special needs (including developmental disabilities, developmental delay, and chronic health conditions). Sessions facilitate interactive play among family members. Families leave with a bag of toys to borrow for the month.
Play sessions take place once a month and last for an hour. Computer play and exploring developmentally appropriate iPad applications are part of every play session. With and without special adaptations, the computer is one of their most versatile toys. Computers and tablets are a certainty in every child’s future and their benefits for children with disabilities are limitless. Families participating in play sessions are eligible for their computer and iPad loan program. When available, families take home a computer system equipped with specialized software and adapted input devices. iPads with appropriate applications designed to meet the child’s individual needs are loaned when available.
Over the years, many families from Darling Pediatric Therapies have gone to Lekotek and truly benefited. We have heard many times of the great developmental and financial benefits. Frequently families would try a toy for a month. If it was a good fit, then they may consider purchasing the item. We highly recommend Lekotek.

This Lekotek location is on South Main Street. We look forward to providing services to children and families in north Fulton, Forsyth and neighboring counties. Currently twenty-five families participate in play sessions at this satellite.
